I am a multidisciplinary artist and currently focus mostly on painting, sound and drawing. On this website you can see some examples of works from the past and present.
My path starts at a very young age. I had great interest in expressing myself through drawing and being in contact with materials such as clay. During highschool I chose visual arts. This choice led me to enter the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto where I studied for a degree in Plastic Arts – Sculpture. I worked with various materials such as clay, plaster (making molds and sculpture), wood and stone. The degree allowed, not only to develop knowledge in Sculpture, but also to explore certain parts of Multimedia such as sound and video. Towards the end of the course I had the opportunity to do Erasmus in Valencia which further enhanced the already present need to bring different tools and references into my work, whether in theory or in practice. Despite having a range of varied disciplines, I was also able to specialize in stone work, from cutting, to carving, to polishing. In this process I was able to focus on time-related issues, which arise between the body and matter. After graduating, I was able to reflect a little on my goals as an artist and decided to do a master's degree in Contemporary Art, Technology and Performativity at the University of País Vasco. It was under these circumstances that I got much closer to audiovisual, photography and installation. The project developed in the master degrre allowed me to broaden my awareness of interventions in public space and filming of everyday contexts, which helped my connection with the land and place. The project is defined, in short, by the gap between physical presence and digital image. When certain difficulties arose during the pandemic, I had to return to Portugal. I admit that it was an added challenge to finish my master's degree at a distance, however, it was in the difficulties and obstacles that I found a way, a path that resulted in an audiovisual essay that, until recently, is being elaborated and reworked. Currently, I am developing a series of paintings that focus precisely on the themes developed during the master degree. This will be an opportunity to investigate on digital imaging and the difference that exists in comparison to older means of representation. In addition, I recognize that drawing is and will be an essential tool as an enhancer of theoretical foundation and development of conceptual content related to projects that are in process or others that may come later.

Sou um artista multidisciplinar e atualmente foco-me maioritariamente em pintura, som e desenho. Nesta página podem ver alguns exemplos do que fiz e faço.
O meu percurso começa desde muito jovem, com grande interesse por expressar-me através do desenho e do contacto com materiais como o barro. Durante o ensino secundário escolhi artes visuais o que me levou mais tarde a ingressar na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto onde fiz a licenciatura de Artes Plásticas – Escultura. Trabalhei com diversas matérias como o barro, o gesso (feitura de moldes e escultura), a madeira e a pedra. A licenciatura permitiu, não só desenvolver conhecimentos em Escultura como também explorar certas partes da Multimédia como o som e o vídeo. Perto da conclusão do curso tive a oportunidade de fazer Erasmus em Valência o que potenciou ainda mais a necessidade já presente de fazer convergir diferentes ferramentas e referências no meu trabalho, seja na teoria ou na prática. Apesar de contar com um leque de disciplinas variadas pude também especializar-me no trabalho em pedra, desde o corte, á talha, ao polimento. Neste processo pude focar-me em questões temporais, que surgem entre o corpo e a matéria. Após a licenciatura, pude refletir um pouco sobre os meus objetivos como artista e decidi fazer o mestrado em Arte Contemporânea, Tecnologia e Performatividade na Universidade do País Vasco. Foi nestas circunstâncias que me aproximei muito mais do audiovisual, da fotografia e da instalação. O projeto desenvolvido no mestrado permitiu alargar a minha consciência face a intervenções em espaço público e filmagens de contextos quotidianos o que ajudou á conexão com a terra e lugar. O projeto define-se, em suma, pelo desfasamento entre a presença física e a imagem digital. Ao surgirem certas dificuldades durante a pandemia, tive que voltar para Portugal. Admito que foi um desafio acrescido terminar o mestrado á distância, no entanto, foi na dificuldade e no obstáculo que encontrei um caminho, caminho esse que resultou num ensaio audiovisual que até recentemente está a ser elaborado e retrabalhado. Atualmente, estou a desenvolver uma série de pinturas que incide precisamente sobre os temas desenvolvidos durante o mestrado. Tal será uma oportunidade para investigar sobre a imagem digital e o contraste que pode existir em comparação a meios de representação antigos. Em acrescento, reconheço que o desenho é e será uma ferramenta imprescindível como um potenciador da fundamentação teórica e desenvolvimento de conteúdo conceptual relativo a projetos que se encontram em processo.
